Seward Public Library

During my tenure as Library Director in Seward, Nebraska, I spearheaded the renovation of a 75-year-old Carnegie library building, supervised staff and a large corps of volunteers, and helped revitalize information services to the community. While serving my small town of Seward, I was also the chair of the state’s Intellectual Freedom Committee and helped to draft the first handbook for meeting censorship challenges in Nebraska libraries. For my work in encouraging programming in the arts & humanities, I was awarded the title of Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska. (You can’t make this stuff up.)
